Welcome to Fossacesia
The town of Fossacesia lies on a promontory overlooking the Adriatic sea, along a stretch of the Trabocchi Coast of Abruzzo. Fossacesia was founded in the 9th century by a colonization of Benedictine monks, with the development of a land company at the service of the existing Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere (Abbey of St. John in Venus), built in the 8th century on the ruins of an ancient pagan temple dedicated to Venus. Later the Abbey was given to the city then called Fossacecam, which incorporates it still today, offering the possibility to the many visitors who every year come to this enchanting place to visit it, since it represents one of the main icons of Religious Tourism in Abruzzo. The beaches of the town of Fossacesia, consisting of characteristic white pebbles, are travel destination for many tourists and for years now they have the Blu Flag. In summer the population triples due to the arrival of many tourists that animate the summers of Fossacesia staying in accommodation facilities in this part of the Trabocchi Coast of Abruzzo. As in other municipalities of the district, even in Fossacesia, it is possible to dine on the beautiful Trabocco savouring the traditional sea gastronomy in a unique atmosphere, suspended between sea and wind.
